SinusTon Festival präsentiert: Cross-Media Creativity: Human and AI Synesthesia
Wenn wir in die Wolken schauen, sehen wir Traumbilder, Luftschlösser und Gesichter (Pareidolie, bezeichnet das Phänomen, in Dingen und Mustern vermeintliche Gesichter und vertraute Wesen oder Gegenstände zu erkennen). Aber auch beim bloßen Hören von Musik bilden sich passende Bilder in unserem Kopf oder beim Betrachten eines William Turner Gemäldes scheinen wir die brechenden Wellen der See hören zu können, und dann gibt es da noch das Ganze Feld der Synästhesie… Das Verknüpfen von unterschiedlichen Medien und Sinnen, sowie der Transfer eines Mediums in ein anderes, scheinen tief verknüpft mit menschlicher Kreativität.
Schauen wir uns die aktuelle populäre KI-Entwicklung an, stoßen wir jedoch auf ähnliche Vorgänge. Das Umwandeln von Text (Prompts) in Bilder oder die Umwandlung von Bild zu Bild sind alltägliche Anwendungsbeispiele von KI-Systemen wie Stable Diffusion, Midjourney etc. Auch verschiedene Text oder Bild zu Ton/Musik Programme sind bereits zu finden.
Ist das also auch Kreativität? Und wenn, wie funktioniert und wie unterscheidet sie sich von menschlicher Kreativität? In diesem Workshop möchten wir die Möglichkeit schaffen, diese Fragen spielerisch und künstlerisch zu erforschen. Nach einer kurzen Einführung und Introduction-performance von uns, können sich die Teilnehmenden dann mit ihrem mitgebrachten eigenen Material ausprobieren - mit einfach zugänglichen Websites und offener Software sowie mit unserem vorbereiteten Setup. Danach wollen wir gemeinsam an einer kurzen Performance arbeiten für welcher wir zuerst eine Partitur (Score) vorbereiten (mit Hilfe der mitgebrachten Objekte) und in welcher wir Ton, in Bild, in Text, in Bild, in Ton etc. Transformationen durch Menschen sowie KI-Systeme durchführen. Je nach Interesse können Themen wie Performance Scores, Loops, Synästhesie etc. weiter vertieft werden.
Unser Workshop richtet sich an alle, die neugierig sind über die kreativen Verknüpfungen von Bild, Ton und Text, sei es mit menschlicher oder maschineller Kreativität.
Außer Neugier am Ausprobieren benötigt Ihr kein weiteres Vorwissen.
Was ihr mitbringen solltet:
Laptop und Kopfhörer
Gerne ein Instrument, wenn ihr selber eins spielt.
Ein selbst aufgenommenes Foto in digitaler Form (optimal in einer Auflösung ca. 800-1400 Pixel an der Langen Seite, sowie einen kleinen gefundenen Gegenstand (das kann alles sein, ob ein Stein, dein erster Zahn oder ein getrocknetes Blatt).

When we look into the clouds, we see dreamscapes, castles in the air and faces (for instance, pareidolia is the phenomenon of recognizing supposed faces and familiar beings or objects in things and patterns). But even when simply listening to music, matching images form in our minds, or when looking at a William Turner painting, we seem to be able to hear the breaking waves of the sea, not to mention the whole field of synesthesia... The linking of different media and senses, as well as the transfer of one medium into another, seems to be deeply connected within human creativity.
However, if we look at current popular AI development, we encounter similar processes. Converting text (prompts) to images or transforming images into other images are everyday examples of AI applications like Stable Diffusion and Midjourney. Even various text or image to sound/music programs can already be found.
Is this also creativity? And if so, how does it work and how does it differ from human creativity? In this workshop, we would like to create the opportunity to explore these questions in a playful and artistic way. After a brief presentation and introduction performance from us, the participants are invited to experiment with their own material they have brought, using accessible websites and open software, as well as our prepared setup. Afterwards, we will work together on a short performance for which we will first prepare a score (using the brought objects) and then conduct transformations of sound to image, text to image, sound to… etc., through both human and AI systems. Depending on interest, topics such as performance scores, loops, synesthesia etc. can be explored in more depth.
Our workshop is aimed at anyone who is curious about the creative links and transformation between image, sound and text, be it with human or machine creativity.
Apart from a curiosity to try things out, you don't need any other prior knowledge; a laptop is an advantage. If you play an instrument, you are welcome to bring it along.

- a photo you have taken yourself in digital form (ideally in a resolution with one side being approx. 800-1400 pixel, as well as a small found object (this can be anything, whether a stone, your first tooth or just a leaf)
